Thanks folks. I wish I had the confidence to do black or purple; I think that would be stunning. My very bright-loving DD would have loved it too. Alas, my skills are of the intermediate type. I think I will go with a silver metallic (I have used Yenmet metallics successfully before) with a light/medium gray in the bobbin.

I wish I could ask daughter, but this is a bit of a surprise. I cussed those poorly cut strips so many times, she undoubtedly thinks I never will finish it. I persevered for her sake, and I want it to be a surprise for her birthday next month.

[Note to self (and warning to others): only use high quality precuts like Moda. This set was truly dreadful. Thank goodness she only wanted a jelly roll quilt since the pieces were worthless for anything else. Cut off grain, bowed in the middle, and not a consistent width. Umm. Is there anything else that could have been wrong?]
