Are you one to use two rulers while cutting? (If you are right handed, place one ruler on the right edge for the measurement you want (i.e. 2 1/2" strip), and then take a second ruler and place it just to the left, remove the one on the right, and cut.
If this method is for you, then go for it, because that's how you use the slide-lock ruler.
