Although it's a long distance to travel it might be worth it to try out the machines. Also many good sewing machine dealers have trade ins for sale that have been serviced and are available for more reasonable prices (after all you are trading in yours). Many have only been lightly used. Call a few but also remember there will be times you want to have your machine serviced so you don't want to have to travel too far for that.
