Welcome to the crazy place...
When you have your needle in it and a foot on it you will see if the needle goes down in the center of the hole/foot or to the left. There is nothing bad about left homing but lots of people prefer center.
My other computer makes it easy for me to look up old posts but if you search Japanese sewing machine with zig zag or Japanese sewing machines with fancy stitches you may find an old thread I started with a lot of info about the Japanese machines. Joe is right sew- classic should have parts for your machine.
