Nan, you don't have to use Peltex if you don't want to. It was suggested that the stiffened felt also makes a great middle layer. On occasion, I have also used cardboard for my middle layer. And, others just use a top layer and a cardstock back. But, I have found that I really like the Peltex best for my middle layer. Really, I am just sharing my way of doing them. Yall do whatever works best for you.
