I don't understand how that stitch regulator worked for her without any encoders. I have them on my Gammill, and they are tiny wheels attached to the sides of the machine, two of them, one on a side and one on an end, if I remember correctly. The wheels run against another part, and the information of how fast you are sewing is transmitted to the machine because the encoder has a small electrical cord which plugs into the machine.
