Bear, I do all of those, too, by preference. Along with hand basting with quilt clamped to a table, and using my long ruler's diagonal angle lines to make cuts for which there are all kinds of do-diddly fancy rulers now. (Having every ruler made hanging my the wall would so overwhelm me....just like shopping in the mall does!!!) I learned to use the older implements so well that I get full use from their properties, thankfully.
