I just bought this pattern from Craftsy. It is different than the one Jenny Doan demonstrates. There is batting in the pattern for Kate's Big Binding Quilt. There is even a formula for making the big binding on any size quilt. Watch the you tube video and you will see the use of the batting. They suggest quilting it lightly, however...and that is after the binding is applied.
