I'm not sure. I will sometimes tear things apart to clean all I can. Other times if it is moving fairly smoothly with just oiling properly I will leave it at that. I know that just using a drop of Tri-flow will loosen things up a tad better than oil. Need a picture . (if you email me one, I will post) Most of the buttonhole attachments I've seen probably just need to be wiped off and looking at a 121704 looks like it might be kind of complicated to get it back together.
