The next time you make one you might enjoy the result more if (#1) the "joins" are slanted rather than straight, (#2) there are a dozen or so strips cut at half the WOF and then randomly chosen in the joining process, and (#3) choose a high contrast 3"-4" insert between all full length strips. This may not fit the "race" aspect, but it is still quick and ends up being a beautiful surprise. I'm also a fan of adding an applique' to give these quilts a uniqueness all their own.
