If it's really dirty or stiff you might want to take it apart to clean and oil it. Just pay attention to how you do it so you can get things back together.

They are so cheap just find a good one somewhere... I don't think I've ever seen one in such bad shape it had to be disassembled. I've take top covers off but I haven't found it necessary to do more than that. Some good oil should do the job.
