I just cut squares an inch bigger size than the finished size you want. If you feel comfortable with a line drawn or seam allowance drawn, then do it. Sometimes following a line can be easier. After cutting them, I carefully starch and press them then trim them down to size. It is simpler this way then to actually cut them 7/8" inch larger. I also used Thangles for a scrappy look but that started to cost too much money. I am sure there will be different methods posted. Try them all and see what works best for you.
