Look for the "Magic 8" method. There is a free pattern in Craftsy, which I think is the same one Eleanor Burns uses. You make 8 HSTs at a time with no papers. I cut my beginning squares slightly oversized and trim to size using the Eleanor Burns Triangle Square Up ruler. I like this ruler the best, because e you trim before you open the HSTs up, so you only have to trim two sides.
