Your fear is understandable, I had my Husqvarna machine for months before I really started to play with it, and I even took a couple classes. Then a friend came over and we started playing with it and the more we learned the more fun we had. It has been a couple years now, she bought the Brother 770 and between the two of us we have several thousand designs.
I can't help with the Brother machine, but I am sure you will enjoy your machine. Have fun - laugh at your mistakes and enjoy your successes. Did I mention it is very addictive once you get started. :-D
