Default I Bought A Singer One Sewing Machine

I saw the Singer One last week and I had to have it. I love the shape of it and I couldn't resist. I bought the cheaper model with 24 stitches because I have three other machines with lots of decorative stitches so I didn't need more stitches. I bought this as a back up machine, just in case. I bought it at Joann.com and paid $249.00 with free shipping. Today the price is $209.00 at Joann.com. I think this would make a good beginner sewing machine because the price is right, it easy to use, and the manual is really well written.

This is not a quilting machine, it's just a general sewing machine. It does buttonholes, sews zippers, blind hems, and has decorative stitches. It has a lovely drop in bobbin with a clear bobbin cover plate so you can see when you are running low on bobbin thread. The stitches are easy to change with the touch of a button. The machine is substantial, but not too heavy to lift, it has a handle in the top that folds down, and the work space is really large.

The feed dogs on this machine do not drop. I can't do any free motion darning or quilting with this machine unless I cover the feed dogs. It does do satin stitching. It also lacks a needle up/down button (you have to use the hand wheel to adjust the needle).

I had a chance to play with it the other day. It was kind of loud but it was easy to use and the tension was perfect right out of the box.
