I'm not sure how you do your applique. I usually do mine all by hand with a blanket stitch if I'm using fusible since my first machine only had 2 stitches -- straight & zigzag. You can technically use zig zag like a satin stitch, if you prefer that look, by reducing length & increasing width ... and usually going over it twice as it's often not dense enough the first time around. I've done that, though I prefer the look, as well as the calming nature & extra control of hand work.
