Sulky Solvy works. I'd just order a small amount of whatever you're thinking of using to make sure you can stitch through it easily enough. Our guild is making a raffle quilt & people wanted to do the stabilizer method (only a couple of us actually do applique -- most of our guild only does piecing) but the pieces varied between 3/4" - 1.25" x 1-2.5" so it just ended up being really bulky to try and stitch through so we ended up going raw edge fusible (H&B Lite) with a satin stitch. Solvy works nice with larger pieces as long as you aren't using a very thin white fabric as the fibers can sometimes show through a bit.
