I have always just moved a smaller mat and that works for me. The mats will eventually wear out and from what I understand, there are no replacement mats for them.
I did not know this...this is one of the reasons I am just going to put it on the back burner for a while. That much money would buy a lot of fabric, or buy a couple nice battings.
