Bento box might be a relatively easy block to make. You could alternate fabric placement too. If you're going to rent a long arm, then they'll assist you there. If so, the backing needs to be at least 4" bigger than the front on all sides. The batting should be bigger than the top too.

Rail fence is a really easy pattern too! Good luck Shortcake! The actual stitching that holds all 3 layers together is the "quilting!"
