Yes Joann's does carry batting for longer time in the microwave. I bought the batting to use for microwave baked potatoes. It is wonderful. I leave it in for one potato for 5 min.
DH and I microwave our bare potatoes for 8 minutes (turning over once after 4 minutes) and then let them set for a few minutes before cutting them open. My sweet potatoes come out perfect this way also. They come out perfect. I have heard of people wrapping them with a paper towel also.
