Yes, they do, depending on how much you use them. I'm a seamstress for a living and we go thru many dozens a year. Don't struggle with using a dull one. The difference will be like slicing thru soft butter after you throw the old one out and use a new one. Before I worked as a seamstress, I probably only used 1 or 2 rippers in many years. Now depending on how much ripping I'm doing, I might go thru one a month.
