Oh yes, I can relate. We moved to an apartment (eons ago) and they had just put down new carpet and I was ironing in the living room and knocked the iron off and yes it left a nice imprint too. Needless to say, when we moved out I didn't ask for my deposit back. lol.
did the same thing in a rental property. Who puts carpeting in the kitchen anyway!? But do see if a good carpet layer is able to patch--I've had that done when we pulled up carpet in room with a floor plug and reused in a smaller room, and twice when the dogs "ate" the carpet.
