There are various ways to make SAS blocks. Looking at the Generations quilt site, they have 2: one made on a 3X3 grid and one made on a 4X4. Which block do you want to make? It makes a difference as to what size(s) you can easily make. You can resize the 3X3 to multiples of 3, and the 4X4 can be resized to multiples of 4. So in other words, you can downsize the 3x3 version to a 9" or the 4X4 to an 8", but a 10 inch block is not possible with piecing although you could draft a paper piecing pattern.
To resize, draw the block you are interested in and then draw the grid lines dividing it up into even sections.
For example, draw the 3X3 version out on a piece of paper. Now divide it up like a 9 patch. The square in a square in the upper right winds up to be 3" square finished, the diamonds are 3 X6 finished, and the large SIS is 6x6 finished.
