Thanks, sky pony. It's a lot of fun. I've found that I feel a lot more free to just doodle around when I'm using either some pieces of felt (slap two together and you've got a sandwich) or some orphan quilt blocks that I'm not going to put into a quilt. When I FMQ on my quilts I tend to be more restrained since I don't want to overwhelm the piecing.

When you do start FMQ try to just let yourself relax into it and don't worry about stitch length etc. at first. I think it's really important to start out thinking of it as play--that way you don't put stress on yourself to be perfect.
