the lines you have drawn all touch, as you say. but you have not drawn enough lines. you cannot 'float' a square in the center of the edge or middle. try drawing lines from the blocks square to the outside edge so that it makes a sewable piece. do the same for the other square that is 'floating'. EQ does not know how to sew what you have drawn, so makes an incomplete result.
