I have done some machine-sewn bindings - what I do is instead of sewing on the front then flipping to the back like I do when I hand stitch, I sew it on the BACK first, then flip it over & machine sew it on from the front, usually with a decorative stitch to finish. That way I'm sure I don't miss any of it.
