Look at the pic of housing screws. Someone had previously taken this machine down and a nickel to a doughnut, lost that washer.

All the screws on the motor were very easy to remove and considering this machine has not been used for 25+ years, the screws should have given me a harder time to remove them. I don't know exactly what the purpose of that shim does, but before disassembly, the motor ran fine after a lube and oil change. Except for the washer, the motor is completely rewired and it fires up nicely. I can make the washer and will guestimate the thickness.
