I am delighted with this thread. I have concentrated on piecing tops of older male boys for years. This aged group is often overlooked. My late husband fussed at first when I hadn't gotten anything "pretty" when he asked to see my fabric purchases but he got used to what I brought pretty quick when he saw my "young man" quilts.

For those searching for themes in fabrics that fit, don't forget that most boys love to EAT! I have done pizza, cooked eggs, bacon, fruits and veggies, popcorn, etc. I have done some of the specific sports things but not every boy is sports inclined. In my area, many are too engaged in farm related activities. Wildlife of all kinds is another print group I use; not just pictures of animals but animal prints. Don't forget birds and feathers! I tend to avoid vehicles since this age group has such specific tastes in these. I also avoid anything nursery or small boy in appearance. You can use a teenage themed print for smaller boys but not the reverse. Also, some girls are tomboys and prefer more rough and ready themed quilts!
