Default A Stable Iron?

When I use an iron, I like to sit it up on its heel because I work close to the pointed end of the board. I have a Rowenta Pro Master (now there's an authoritative name!) that has a flexible, but stiff, vinyl extension where the cord comes out of the iron, so when I rest the iron , I have to drag this cord-keeper across the board to sit it up. In this position, the iron is unstable. I haven't had an accident yet, but several close calls where I've had to catch the iron by its cord in order to prevent a spill. You'd think the designer of the iron would consider those who don't rest the iron horizontally. Is there a good iron out there that is stable in the upright position?
