How do I cut a 12.25 inch block into 3 equal strips. here just isn't enough fabric to make it 12.5 inches. What am I doing wrong. If I make my seams a tad wider and get 12 inch blocks will that work. Will try one later today.
If your HSTs are 6.5 inches, that will make your pinwheel 12.5 inches. But when you disappear that pinwheel you are putting in more seams. So the original HSTs must be larger. I would make them at least 7 inches.

I don't cut mine exactly into thirds. You can measure from the middle seam and cut at 2 or 2.25 inches, or whatever is easy for you to remember. Those one eighth inch cuts are a bummer and not necessary.

Take pieces of paper and test cut to see where the cuts would be and how they would look with different sizes. You could draw and color the HST to make this easier to see.

The 10 inch fabric pieces will make a block only so big. I guess you would have to be satisfied with the size that comes out.
