I had a 1500 and getting to the bobbin was a real pain. I finally took the bobbin cover off. I switched to a Juki 2010 and bought a SewEzi table.
The SewEzi is open on the right side. That would mean you could remove the insert and slide the machine to the right to get at the bobbin without damaging any connectors.
