I use spray basting too and never had it gunk up my needle. Nor do I wait any time to start quilting either. But then it doesn't seem to take that long to dry really, so it is probably dry by the time I start to sew. I use the glue stick for matching seams and never had a problem either.

I just bought some fusible batting to make an iPad purse, haven't used it yet, so hope it does not gunk up the needle.
