Here is a layout that is six across and eight down in the barn raising setting. If you added one more block to the width, the layout would be off center. Any time an odd number of blocks is used, the design will be off center.

I'd make the center "off-center" intentionally to add interest to the setting. My quilt had nine blocks down, and it was off center. I wanted extra length so the quilt would tuck under my mattress.
