Here would one way of doing it. You could take a 12 square piece of paper & fold it in half twice (giving you 4 creased squares when unfolded). Then take the paper & fold it in half diagonally twice. Then take all the corners & fold to the center point & you should have your correct triangle sizes only you would have to add the 1/4" seam allowance around the triangles. :D
