Stippling is a form of free-motion quilting to fill in an area of a design. It's usually much tighter in design than normal free-motion quilting would be. At least that's my interpretation of it, and how I use it. :D
:thumbup: I agree, Lenny, and it kind of resembles the shape of a puzzle piece.
Meandering is kind of like stippling, but it is a larger design and usually used for filling in spaces larger than you would fill in with stippling.
When stippling is used around a motif inside of a quilt block, it can help the motif to stand out.
