this is how i do also. then when finished cutting, i take the scraps out and shake. the birds seem to love it for their nests. i prewash everything ..not because of shrinkage but because of the chemicals in the sizing etc. almost everything i make anymore is for my little grands ...so i even prewash fabric for their American Girl doll clothes and bedding i make them. i've used minkie tops and backs for most of their quilts, plus hats, purses and anything else fun i can think of. i started spray basting my flannel &/or minkie quilts a few years ago. wow, what a fabulous thing that spray basting is. i wish i had tried it years ago! no tucks, no pleats ...smooth backs w stretchy material ...love the spray baste!
