We get them here in Georgia, too. Ugh. Nasty, creepy things. So far they haven't been bad (knock on wood!), but last year they were horrible.
As far as how to get rid of them, I don't know. I've tried everything short of calling an exterminator!
Bad thing is, we have cathedral ceilings, and they love hanging out up there, where they're not easily reached. Finally I got a handful of rubber bands and shot them down! It was funny, but it got them off the ceilings!
