I understand your plight. A couple of months ago I unquilted some feathered wreaths on a quilt I was doing. It took me a full week of all my sewing time. My problem was that I had used a color that was such a contrast that it destroyed the look of the quilt--to much. The farther I had quilted the worse it looked. So, I ripped. I am glad I did it. Now, I like what I am doing for the quilting color and pattern I am using. I had used white and now I am using colors. What a difference. And, of course, saving the quilt was a saving of a lot of money I had already spent for the fabric. So, I applaud you for being willing to go one step backward- now you can go forward again.
