I have quilted with a lot of King Tut thread, and love it. I mostly use a 90/14 quilting needle, and have tried the top stitch needle but didn't notice any difference either way. On my machine (Janome 8900) I prefer to use Aurifil 50wt in the bobbin and adjust the tension to avoid thread blobs on the back. One thing I use with all thread and every machine, is a thread stand. The few extra inches from the thread stand gives the thread a little more time to unwind and relax before hitting the tension disks, and I never have trouble with shredding or skipping.
