this will not help much for the quilt you are doing now but I find that pieced backing works wonderfully with QAYG projects...I usually make large blocks then put them together with QAYG sashing...this makes it ideal to use the left over fabric ...I stagger the fabrics and use a sashing on the back that blends with all of them...I usually have about 6 large blocks on the back of the fabric..this is for either a twin or lap size quilt..
