I've finally made up my mind to try the vortex pattern from craftsy someone directed me to. Its plainly a checkboard but with a bit of spice to it. I'll still use my variety of reds and whites/neutrals I've been collecting for it and will need to enlarge the pattern quite a bit to make it a queen size. I've been wanting to try one of these patterns so here's my chance at it. Thanks to all who have made suggestions.
