Honestly, I think the best person to advise you on this is your 94 year old neighbor. Obviously she has been doing something right to have kept it in such beautiful condition over all these years.
I agree with PaperPrincess, unless you have that UV film on your windows, keep it away from windows. You can use a vacuum with the brush attachment on it between washings and I'd only handwash with a dye-free detergent in cold water and then tumble dry on low heat to get it dry. If you put a dry towel in the dryer with it, that will reduce the amount of drying time.
I like to roll quilts & store them in a muslin sack. Take them out once or twice a year. We did that with my great-grandma's civil-war era quilts. Kept them pristine until they were stolen within 6 months of moving her into the retirement home. So sad. Might be worthwhile to get it appraised & talk to your insurance agent to make sure it's covered by your home owner's insurance. Such a treasure. Would be wonderful if you can keep it for another 80 years.
