I make mine 53"x78" which is the size of a single bed duvet. I specifically chose this size because it is bigger than a lap quilt but smaller than a twin bed quilt. For me this is the perfect size to cover an adult comfortably on the sofa but still big enough to use on a twin bed. Actual twin bed size is a bit bulky for a 'lap' quilt or sofa throw.
