I am assuming you are doing machine applique? If so a stabilizer is recommended if you are satin stitching the edges to prevent tunneling in the stitches and wrinkles in the background fabric. I don't find it necessary if I am buttonhole stitching around applique.
Thanks Tartan for reminding me. I forgot to mention that I,m doing raw edge on the machine.
