I sewed on something similar but in the bright orange regulation hunting fabric. My machine tended to skip stitches. I never did figure out why but sewed every seam twice to counteract the skips.
Good idea, I also try to top stitch where possible. Maybe a needle for denim is required for this type of fabric.
