I agree with you that non-quilters do not look at our "creations" the same way we do, however, I have yet to give a baby quilt to anyone who did not thank me for making the quilt. My daughter used to ask me to make baby quilts for her friends and they were happy to get them. I once made a quilt for one of her friends, that I had to mail to her. When the package arrived, she looked at the address and was thrilled that I had made her the quilt. That's my usual reaction, and I often hear years later about how the kids loved the quilts. I do agree that the fabrics play a big part in how the quilt is received, however, I believe that babies love bright colored quilts as much as the parents do. I generally make simple 9-patch quilts, with squares of a focus fabric, I get to create using many different fabrics and I can give a gift that while I spent time on, I still had the pleasure of making the quilts. I would suggest that you continue to do what you love and keep quilting.
