DottyMO, I just purchased the pattern but haven't made it yet. I read the instructions several times and I think I figured it out. You don't stitch a separate border. By adding the 5inch square on top of the 7 inch square (red square in the pattern) gives the look of a border. Can't wait to try it. Good luck!
There is another way of doing the wreath where you do stitch a boarder on the center piece.
