I used my regular zipper foot also. If I remember correctly, you unroll the tape next to the teeth and stitch a few (maybe 16th in) away from teeth. You could try an inch or two at the bottom of the zipper, using longer stitches that would be easy to rip out, just to see if it will work for you.
