It's still in the cutting phase, but I took a 1000 Pyramids class (60 degree triangles) with Mary Fons & that pattern looks very striking in one color, many tones/tints/shades. I designed mine with light greys pointing up & charcoals/blacks facing down. I've been thinking about adding a few pops of Parisian Pink, but haven't found the right fabric just yet so I'll either have to dye it myself or leave it tonal.

I was the only one in our class that picked a black & white scheme. The rest all picked a color (& its variations) & that looked good, too.

EDIT: As others have pointed out, be sure to audition your fabrics. Even among the greys, some have a bit beige & others have almost a bluish cast. I personally didn't like those together.
