Good luck with your Bernina. I have a 1530 and I love it. Yours is an old work horse and it will last forever, barring any negligence on the part of the old owners. As others have said, it is best to take it to a Bernina trained technician, even if it means you have to drive a few extra miles. If it is far away, take some friends and make a day out of it, visiting quilt shops on the way over and the way back.
